MIDTERM Presentation : Dog day after noon in TOKYO.....Shibuya and beyond

During my 4 days trip to Tokyo (April 1st to 4th, 2014), I got to sleep in the dormitory
style bunk bed room with total of 8 people, males and females integrated. When
booking 6 month prior, as I do with most of my trips, I had no clue as to how
awful and nightmare experience it would eventually become. Out of 8, about
4 people snored simultaneously. Both sexes. And I had to make sound recordings of it.

3D Camera tracking was done in After Effects and sound effector
was modeled in Cinema 4D. Final composite was done in AE. The source
footage was shot by myself while walking from Shibuya to Harajuku.
The sound was amplified and edited in WAVEPAD sound editor.

I was back in Shibuya in 8 years, and nothing much seemed to have changed.
Still, mass population crossing 5 way cross section at the same time calls
for "wow". This must be the equivalent of NY Times Square in Asian version.

When in Shibuya, I shot 380 degree panorama shots to be used as HDRI image
source for compositing. And also, lots of video clips were filmed using none
other than my Iphone.

Then I worked the same procedure as the above snore effector with the
following Shibuya cross section. I've extracted street noise from the video
and amplified it in WAVEPAD and connected that sound to the sound effector
in Cinema 4D. For final composite, I had to make an effort to bring the
experimental image to the next level. I have literally put forth all my learnings
from the past 2 years in 3D skill set using related programs. End result could
be viewed as total chaos which is befitting to Shibuya, Tokyo.

Initial render output for my work should have been exactly ONE MINUTE but
even after close to 12 hours of rendering time on my desktop, the rendering
has ceased to continue making my final render result shy of 30 seconds after
my pc went in to a sleep mode automatically. Nevertheless, all my intended
visualization was achieved within that time restraint. And I just got on with
uploading

Final RENDER OUT with all the composites

Manipulation of Hapjeong Crossroad with the UFO sound effector reflecting both surrounding environment and barking of my dogs

At first embark on this weekly project, I had no idea it would take so many procedure, steps and tasking in the workflow between various softwares used such as AFTER EFFECTS CC, CINEMA 4D R15 and Photoshop CC among others. Believe it or not, my whole weekend including whole Friday had to be sacrificed to meet the end result.

Invasion of Hapjeong crossroad by an Alien Sound Effector Poly Reduction Object

Achieving the final goal was no easy task at all. To briefly list the types of skill set
showcased here....

1) barking dog sounds had to be recorded then modified into WAV.file format
for C4D to be able to process it for the movement of sound effector object.
2) both photographs (about 20 shots)  and video had be shot at Hapjeong
crossroad. Former for HDRI mapping source and latter for final composite
    video.
3) Camera Tracking had to be processed in After Effects CC. Then the tracking
information had to be imported into C4D to adjust the camera while synchronizing
the background with 3d modeled object, which here is the chrome colored
mapped polygon reduction object. And also key framing animation had to be
    done in C4D.
4) After creating 3D model mapped with surrounding HDRI image reflection,
global iluminance light along with ambient occlusion render set up had to be
    added for final render.
5) The final render made out in PNG sequence for composite in After Effects had
to be Rotoscoped for adding depths and realism.

It started with recording the barking sound of my two dogs with an iPhone

360 degree shots had to be photographed and stitched up in Photoshop to be used as source image file for HDRI mapping

Thank you all for getting through the bottom of this post. And here is a bonus
clip for your entertainment. A footage I have worked on C4D rencently.
